BOTOX® IN THE DENTAL OFFICE

When considering cosmetic dental treatments, the look and brightness of a smile has a big impact on overall aesthetic and confidence. Did you know that a visit to your local dentist can include more than just a lift to your smile? With specialized training in injections and the anatomy of the face, dentists are uniquely qualified to administer cosmetic BOTOX® treatments in the dental office.

Why get BOTOX® from your dentist?

In addition to its cosmetic uses, BOTOX® is used as a treatment for disorders of the jaw joint and associated muscle pain. The temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) is located at the point where the jaw bone meets the skull and can become overworked or displaced by teeth grinding or every day activities such as chewing and talking. This can lead to jaw pain and even tension headaches. BOTOX® injections can often be effective at reducing jaw tension and relieving some of the discomfort.

At our North Vancouver Dental Office, we are fully trained to administer BOTOX® injections not just for muscle tension but for regular cosmetic treatments. Cosmetic injections are most effective on fine lines in the forehead, around the eyes, and between eyebrows.

How does BOTOX® work?

The neurotoxin in BOTOX® works by blocking out signals that command muscle contraction. When BOTOX® is injected into the tiny muscles of the face, it has a temporary paralyzing effect that smooths out the muscles and tightens the skin. The results usually lasts for at least 3 months or up to 8 months.

Advantages of using BOTOX®

BOTOX® is considered a low risk and non-invasive cosmetic treatment. Benefits included:

  • It is a temporary treatment. You can try it once and decide not to continue.
  • There is no permanent alteration to your appearance since the effects of BOTOX® wear off after a few months.
  • The results are immediate (within a couple of hours or days) with no down time.
  • The procedure is quick (generally only 10 minutes to complete).

The next time you’re due for a dental check-up, consider asking about adding a BOTOX® consultation to your appointment. Speak to your dentist to learn more and determine if BOTOX® is right for you.
